To celebrate the centenary of the opening of the Bauhaus in 1919, Hetty Berens, curator of Sonneveld House, will give a lecture about the relationship between the Bauhaus and Sonneveld House during the 2019 Art Rotterdam Week. The Bauhaus played an important role in the furnishing of the house in 1933, for example, the Sonnevelds chose furniture by Bauhaus students.
Following the lecture, fifteen visitors will get the chance to visit Sonneveld House before opening hours. The visitors will receive a free audio guide, allowing them to walk freely through Sonneveld House and to discover how modern the Sonneveld family’s lifestyle was for the time. The rest of those attending the lecture will be able to visit the house free of charge during Art Rotterdam.
During the 2019 Art Rotterdam Week, the Chabot Museum is organising a Museumpark villa tour and Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen presents the exhibition The Netherlands ⇄ Bauhaus – Pioneers of a New World.
